A Group Approach to Pregnancy Support

Centering Pregnancy Programs Provide Support for Pregnant Women in the Community

Whether this is your first child or your last, every pregnancy is unique. Centering Pregnancy groups allow women to find the support they need for their pregnancy in the community, joined by healthcare professionals and other women at the same stage of pregnancy that they are. This allows the groups to help each other, from sharing resources to discussing symptoms, milestones, and other steps along their pregnancy journeys.  Some women may form bonds that last long after the birth of their children.

What is a Centering Pregnancy Program?

Over the last decade, new techniques and ways to engage with women who are expecting have been developed. Centering Pregnancy is the practice of bringing together a group of women that are at the same stages of their pregnancies, and educate and empower them to be ready for motherhood. During each session, which meets at regular intervals during your pregnancy, you will receive your prenatal care, learn about pregnancy and newborn care, breastfeeding, and more. The women in these groups, and their partners, provide support to each other, as well as gain a deeper understanding of their pregnancy and children, and may form bonds that last a lifetime.

The Impacts of Centering Pregnancy

More than the life-long relationships that are developed, Centering Pregnancy provides benefits to both you and your baby. Women that become part of Centering Pregnancy groups are more likely to have babies that go to full term and are born at a healthy weight. After the birth of the baby, these women also are more likely to breastfeed their newborns and wait longer to have another child. You have more confidence in raising your baby, knowing that you have a support group to rely on and the information provided by your healthcare provider.
